At just 19, Arjun Kumal has once again showcased his immense potential, this time with a maiden century in the Men’s Prime Minister Cup. The young opener played a match-defining knock of 106 off 140 balls, laced with 10 fours and a six, leading Gandaki Province to a dramatic super over victory on Monday against Madhesh Province at Siddharthanagar in their final match of the tournament.
With this century, Arjun became only the second batter from Gandaki to reach three figures in the Men’s PM Cup, following in the footsteps of Anil Gurung, who achieved the feat in 2019. His tally of 374 runs in nine innings, including two fifties and a hundred, came at an average of over 40 and a strike rate of 68, making him the third-highest run-getter in a single edition of the tournament. More importantly, he is now Gandaki’s highest run-scorer in PM Cup history at a remarkably young age.
Arjun’s ability to anchor an innings has been evident for some time. He had already made an impression in age-group cricket with two scores in the 90s for Nepal Under-19, one of which came during the Under-19 World Cup in South Africa last year. His credentials at the senior level were further solidified when he struck a List A century against Ireland Wolves while playing for Nepal A in 2024.
His journey in Nepal’s domestic circuit began in 2021 when he made his PM Cup debut as a 15-year-old. Such was his promise that he was included in Nepal’s national camp for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 series against Oman and the USA even before earning his Under-19 cap.
Arjun’s cricketing roots extend beyond Nepal. He spends a significant portion of his time training in Delhi, a routine that has seemingly honed his temperament for longer formats. With a stellar domestic season now behind him, the anticipation around his inclusion in Nepal’s senior squad continues to grow. Fans believe it is only a matter of time before he dons the national colors,
